With the introduction of the all-new CX-5 - a model that's only slightly smaller but far more fuel-efficient - the Mazda CX-7 is being phased out in the U.S. at the end of the 2012 model year. The one thing a lot of drivers seem to forget is that if you get really good fuel mileage, you have to give something up. In the case of the all-new Mazda CX-5, you get great handling, a nice interior, a comfy ride ... and somewhat of a slug when you hit the throttle. Why won't she? Because the little devils could crack her fuel tank, that's why.
In the I couldn't make this up if I tried category, Transport Canada is reporting a recall on 10,247 Mazda6 vehicles, model year 2009 and 2010, for a potential fuel leak. According to the recall, pressure can build up in the fuel tank if "a particular type of spider" weaves a web in the evaporative canister vent line, causing a restriction that affects the pressure in the tank. When the canister purges repeatedly, this pressure can crack the gas tank.
To which I say, wouldn't a Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder have been a more logical choice?
