Our house is older and has some issues with its foundation, so my husband is chipping out the old concrete, building forms, and pouring in new. He's doing that because it's a lot less expensive than having someone come in and do it for us.
But now Chevrolet has a new program - the Corvette Engine Build Experience - that turns everything upside down. When you order a 2011 Z06 or ZR1, you can then make arrangements to go to the plant and build your own engine. Under the watchful eye of a skilled supervisor, you put together your own engine with your own ten fingers.
And you pay $5,800 to do so. Plus whatever it costs you to get to Detroit.
It's a genius plan, of course: Corvette people are an enthusiastic bunch, and I'll admit, I think it would be pretty cool to help build my own brand-new car. Hmmm. Do you think, if I set a lower-than-low price of just $500, I could convince a contractor to pay it to me, and then come to my house to fix my wall himself?
