Toyota spent its first hybrid years convincing people you didn't have to plug in the Prius; now, it has to explain that yes, you can. I drove the Prius Plug-In, an extended-range model that runs on battery only from a stored charge and then reverts to hybrid mode when that runs out.  I don't get the maximum benefit out of most hybrids because I live in the country and so don't get to drive on the battery alone all that often.
